What Makes SITGM Different?

Clients are Assessed for Readiness

Stand in the Gap Ministries is focused on bringing about real life change or transformation and is focused on addressing root cause issues, not surface level symptoms or temporary, short-term fixes.  In order to qualify perspective clients (neighbors), SITGM worked with Baylor University to develop an assessment tool to help identify people who are ready for a hand up, and not a hand out. The tool is used to assess the readiness of each perspective client or “neighbor” and is an important part in the formation of each family.

No Material Support

Stand in the Gap Ministries does not provide material support for several reasons.

  • First and most important, SITGM is not about what volunteers can do for a “neighbor” by writing a check (which many times doesn’t provide lasting help) it’s about what God can do for a “neighbor”.
  • Also, providing material support often creates an unhealthy co-dependent relationship between client (neighbor) and volunteer.
  • In every community, there are other organizations that provide material support. We help the client (neighbor) connect with those organizations when appropriate.

Year Long Commitment

People aren’t broken overnight. And they most likely will not be healed overnight, as the healing process takes time. SITGM participants are asked to commit to meeting twice a month for one year. In most cases this time commitment is less than a Bible study.
