Stand in the Gap Ministries (SITGM) is a prayer-based, small-group-empowered movement that fills the gaps:
- in the social service system,
- in the ministry of the local church, and
- in the lives of individuals.
Through a simple yet profoundly effective model, Stand in the Gap Ministries works with small groups within a church – the support “family” – to come alongside an individual in need – a “neighbor” – over the course of a year. Through presence, care, authentic sharing, support, accountability and prayer, small group members (usually 4-8 people) enter into the life of their "neighbor". And through this authentic, compassionate engagement, the neighbor begins to release old habits and form new, healthy habits and effective life skills. The commitment is for a year, but the friendships that develop last for a lifetime.
The specific “needs” or life issues of neighbors vary on a case-by-case basis. Whether the neighbor is a youth who will or has “aged out” of the foster care system, a widow, a person just released from prison, the lonely senior in need of companionship and assistance or someone recovering from an addiction, the long-term involvement of caring individuals in the person’s life creates meaningful, positive change.
Mission Statement: Stand in the Gap Ministries is a prayer-based, church-driven, small group movement, focused on helping a neighbor rise above overwhelming life challenges through a loving, spiritual family experience.
Vision: Our vision is to facilitate 100,000 spiritual families who answer God’s call to love their hurting neighbors and experience God’s transforming love.
